Carole Sedona has settled into a quiet and monotonous early retirement at the beginning of The Body on the Beach. At 53, she has moved to the seaside village of Fethering where she and her ex-husband purchased a vacation cottage prior to their divorce. She spends her days in a routine, clean and organized with frequent walks on the beach accompanied by Gulliver, her dog. A little boring, but she is content.

But Carole’s life will never be the same after the cottage next door receives a new occupant, the mysterious woman, Jude, and then Carole finds a dead body on the beach. When the body disappears before the police can investigate, Carole, spurred on by Jude, joins forces with her to play detective after another woman arrives at Carole’s cottage and holds her at gunpoint.

Soon another body, that of a teenage boy is discovered on the beach, and Carole and Jude must figure out how everything is connected.

A really very good read, and the first in the Fethering series, which to date includes 21 titles with the last being published in 2022.
