In Leonie Swann's Three Bags Full, one of the flocks of sheep in the Irish village of Glennkill has a problem: their shepherd has been murdered in their meadow. Now the sheep are determined to obtain justice for his death. They immediately suspect Ham, the butcher, because he is their natural enemy, but they soon realize that the murderer could be anyone who came to the meadow that day. Hindered by the inability to talk and ask questions as well as not truly understanding the ways of humans, the sheep overcome the odds and their fears to find the killer as well as a new shepherd to care for them. A charming story translated from the German and, unfortunately, the only English book available from Swann. Recommended.
