Anthony Trollope - The Warden
Wednesday, February 3, 2010
A quiet book which tells the story of the Warden of Barchester, Reverend Harding. When Harding's politically-motivated, potential son-in-law, John Bold, tells the press about the disparity between Harding's salary and the daily stipend of the elderly men he cares for and brings a lawsuit against Harding in order to right the "wrong," Harding must face the truth of whether accepting his salary is truly the right thing to do. This is the first novel in Trollope's Barchester Chronicles, and it introduces the characters. Trollope is the master of telling a story through his character types without relying on caricature.
