Murder on the Marlow Belle is the 4th installment in Robert Thorogood's Marlow Murder Club series. I have immensely enjoyed the series, so it was a pleasure to read this for a review.
Our cast of characters, Judith, Suzie, and Becks, are again on the hunt for a murderer after Judith receives a distressed call from the wife of the leader of the Marlow amateur theatre group, asking for her help because the leader did not return home the previous evening after a celebration for the troop held on a pleasure boat on the Thames.
The suspects include everyone in the troop, as well as a successful Hollywood actress who was once a member, as well as being the former lover of the victim. Everyone appears to have a motive for wanting him out of their lives. At the same time, Becks is suspicious of her daughter's too-good-to-be-true new boyfriend, and Suzie is just sure that doom is headed Judith's way after a foreboding tarot reading.
Thorogood's series is like candy for me to read: I love the camaraderie of the club as their friendship helps them navigate the routine life struggles common for each of their individual ages, while at the same time providing a carefully plotted mystery with resolutions that continue to surprise me. I gave this one 4.5 stars and highly recommend. I'm looking forward to the next in the series in 2026.
