Wicked Fix
is the third book in Sarah Graves' home repair cozy mystery series. It's also where Graves hit her stride. The previous books in the series focused on lead character Jacobie Triptree's background as a financial advisor in New York and why she decided to move to rural Maine and buy a dilapidated, old house. The connections between high-finance and quirky, small-town dwellers were a stretch, so it's good to see Graves completely focused on the small-town history and dynamics of Jake's new home.

Jake's ex-husband, neurosurgeon Victor, has followed Jake to Maine, and the two are working as partners to establish an emergency surgical center in the town. Before they can secure funding though, Victor is arrested accused of killing the local town blackmailer, and Jake must clear his name to save her investment.

Wicked Fix is carefully and cleverly plotted with several distinct and interesting characters. The rationale around the motive for one of the murders (spoiler - there's more than one) was not fully developed though, in my opinion. An interesting cold case involving the original owner of Jake's house is a bonus.
